Job Done
10:44am November 3rd, 2010Well we’ve been back a few weeks now and both of us are still in a semi-state of shock at what we’ve been up to. We both went there so focused on what we had to do we didn’t consider how we would get on with the other people in the group. I can honestly say that we now have another 50 great new friends, people who all had a story to tell, many amazingly courageous stories.
The wonderful scenery and personal achievement were immense, but the biggest thing I will take from the trek is the inspiration taken from the others on the group, the bonding happened so fast that the friendships made seemed a lifetime old.
It’s not for me to convey their stories but I will say if more people looked at life like these guys the world would be a much nicer place. The group of 51 covered many charities and between us all we have raised over £100,000 for those charities with more money still to come in.
People asked regularly “why are you going all that way”. I now think the answer speaks for itself. It was a very special time but entertainingly and spiritually, the photo’s taken by people don’t really seem to do the trek justice, all I can say is go and do it! Seriously go and do it!
Getting nervous..
09:58am September 22nd, 2010With just over two weeks to go the realisation that we’re about to embark on something which for so long seemed like a distant goal is certainly getting the blood moving. This was compounded with the arrival of my entry visa.
We still have a bit of money to raise to reach “our” target but look on course to meet the organisers target..so once again if you are considering sponsoring us please..please..please (you get the point I know) sponsor us soon. We’ve already raised a fair bit, but the more we can raise thye more families we will be able to help, and believe me, we were so grateful for everything Ronald Mcdonald House did for us.
Bye for now.
7 Weeks to go…..
11:46am August 20th, 2010With time fast running out for training, I’ve finally got some footwear that is comfortable and now that the virus I had for a fortnight has shifted I can get on with some more serious training.
People keep asking me “how many miles are you going to be doing” a question that I asked Skyline (the organisers) the reply was simple and to the point “we don’t bother measuring in miles as it doesn’t represent the climbing of steps that you do!” Oh lucky us!
Things are alot more “real” now as we’ve had our flights confirmed, many hours travelling with a stop over for a few hours in Dubai, we’ll only see the inside of the airport though.
Update 23rd July 2010
11:08am July 23rd, 2010Hello, training is coming on nicely, and now The Kit Shop (Fore Street, Exeter) have supplied us with all our equipment at cost price so we get to train with our equipment. A big thank-you to Sam and all the team there for their expertise!
This Sunday a team from The Dental Access Centre at Heavitree Hospital are doing a car boot sale at Matford to raise more money for us. A big thank-you to everyone who donated items and a extra thank-you to Mel & Sandra who are giving up there time to do the selling, good luck ladies!
Friday the 16th of July saw our first deadline met, we needed to have 80% of the minimum amount in by then. We made it by the skin of our teeth with all the stops being pulled out to get there. We actually met the target at about 9.30 the night before!
Thank you everyone for the support we’re getting!

Hello World
11:21am June 16th, 2010We are all aware of the heartache caused when a child is sick and has to stay in hospital. This heartache is increased further when the hospital is not your local one. Children sometimes have to stay at a hospital away from home due to the specialist treatment they require.
Ronald McDonald House provides families with a home away from home. Not only does it give you some resemblence of normality back, it also provides an un-official network from both the wonderful staff and other families staying there.
Adam’s daughter Ella (now 4) sufferered from a rare condition diagnosed as ADEM (Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis), basically her immune system fought of a virus before turning onto her brain, there are less than 10 cases a year of ADEM in the country and she had a rarer form again. This caused her to go into a state of semi-coma for six weeks, when she woke up she had to learn everything again from drinking, walking to who her parents were.
Ronald McDonald house gave the family a chance to be a family again, even the everyday meals in a kitchen rather than microwave or canteen meals really makes a difference.
We know how much Ronald McDonald house helps families, if you would like more information please ask one of us or contact them direct. They provide a wonderful service that is run purely on donations and would not be able to continue the amazing work without the help of people like you.
As you probably know by now we are going on a mad trek across part of the Great Wall of China in October, it’s not just walking along a path, we will be trekking along mountains and through jungle, staying with farmers at night. We seriously need your maximum generosity to make a difference. We are covering the expenses of the trip our selves so every penny you donate will go to the charity.
